My journey started back in the early 1990’s. I had been an avid weightlifter and fitness buff for years. I was in my twenties and so I was sure that I could never injure myself (Ha!). In 1993, while doing shoulder presses, it happened– I strained one of my rotator cuff muscles (it was my supraspinatis, for those of you who are interested in the anatomy of things). For two years, I took the route of seeing endless doctors and specialists. They all either wanted to give me pain medication or operate. The naproxen tore up my stomach and I wasn’t going to let anyone cut me…
Fast forward 2 years…The gym I belonged to had a chiropractor on site. After my first session with him, he suggested that I get massage therapy on my shoulder twice a week. This was the best advice I ever received…After two weeks with the massage therapist, the pain was gone and I had full mobility in my shoulder. I was sold on massage.
It took another 8 years to decide that massage therapy was something I could do for a living, but in 2002 an opportunity arose and so I moved across the country, got into a massage therapy program, started a business, and never looked back. I have truly been blessed to have “found” my calling.
Since then, my business has thrived! I have had the honor of helping thousands of people get back to healthier lives by relieving their aches and pains. Massage and bodywork has come a long way through the years. There is a ton of research that has been done to show the benefits of different types of massage on our overall health.
I believe that knowledge is power, and I have cultivated a strong, lifetime commitment to continuing education. In addition to my basic massage therapy training, I actively update my training with supplemental continuing education courses.
I have studied with many of the leading figures in massage therapy research and education. Additionally, I am certified as a Medical Massage Practitioner.
“What can I do between massages to help keep me in top shape?”
This is a Question that I constantly get asked about in my practice.
That is what the blog section of the website will attempt to answer. There are so many products on the market now that promise this and that.
